
The Hispanic Advisory Board is still accepting applications for parade entries and festival vendors for the 15th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival. Previous parade participants and vendors, along with new participants are invited to join the festivities. This year some of the new vendors include local Immigration Attorney Neal Mettler, Wells Fargo, and Cascade Health Alliance.
Earth Day 2018 is this Sunday and there are events all weekend to celebrate our planet. Events such as the Storm Drain Art Contest, Sustainapalooza, and OIT Campus Garden Celebration are just a couple of the basin events planned this weekend. In case you celebrated already, there are plenty of other events unrelated to Earth Day happening as well.
Klamath Falls, Ore. – This year, the last one for Dancing With Your Klamath Falls Stars, former champions compete against unknown challengers for the last mirror ball trophy. The competition begins and ends, Friday, April 20, 2018 beginning at 7:30pm on the Ross Ragland Theater stage.
On May 17 the Klamath Falls City Schools and Blue Zones Project Klamath Falls are hosting the fifth annual Give Back Day.
This five-year point marks a significant milestone for Give Back Day. The Klamath Falls City Schools started Give Back Day in 2014 as a way to show the community how much students care. In total, students and staff have contributed 17,000 hours of community service. And 12,000 students have learned the value of giving back to their community.
Students have a new place to learn at Shasta Elementary. It doesn’t have desks, a white board, windows or even a ceiling. That’s because the entire classroom is outside.
“It’s meant to be just that, to give our students the opportunity to be outside and have a change of environment and enjoy their fresh air,” said Krissy Dodson, Shasta Boosters Outdoor Renovation team lead.
Tulelake, CA – Lava Beds National Monument is pleased to announce that they will be hosting the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program again this year. YCC is a summer employment program for young men and women, ages 15 through 18, who work and learn together by participating in conservation work on public lands. The program is expected to begin on June 18th, and will run for 8 weeks, dependent upon available funding.

Klamath County would like to welcome Phillip Squibb as the new Director of our Developmental Disabilities department.
Phillip brings years of experience as a clinical therapist, school social worker, teacher, and education director to his new role. He previously worked in the Illinois and Oregon public school systems and has over a decade of experience in reading, writing, and accommodating IEP and 504 plans. Phillip has also spent the past six years working as a therapist and the Education Director at Dragonfly Transitions.
The annual Oregon Tech Easter Egg Scramble was held today (3/31/18) on the field of John F. Mohel Stadium where 783 kids and their family members dashed for the colorful treasures.
The scramble has become tradition at Oregon Tech organized by the Residence Hall. For over a week, students packaged individual wrapped candies inside 16,000+ eggs for the scramble and in mere seconds it was over.

On March 21, 2018, Kidde issued a recall of 452,000 dual sensor (photoelectric and ionization) smoke alarms sold in the United States. The smoke alarms have the model numbers PI2010 (AC/hardwired) and PI9010 (DC/battery powered). "KIDDE" is printed on the front center of the smoke alarm. The model number and date code are printed on the back of the alarm.
Sky Lakes Medical Center today lifted the temporary safety measures put in place in January to help prevent the spread of flu.
Under the temporary measures, anyone 18 and younger was restricted from visiting patients in the Emergency Department or in the inpatient care areas of the medical center without specific permission.

Gray whales are migrating north past the Oregon coast and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) invites visitors to share the excitement during Spring Whale Watch Week March 24-31. Trained volunteers from the Whale Watching Spoken Here program will be stationed 10 a.m. -- 1 p.m. each day at 24 sites along the coast, ready to help people spot the migrating marine mammals.

On March 5, 2018, the State of Oregon Employment Department has released survey results regarding employment in the East Cascades area (Klamath, Lake, Deschutes, Crook, Jefferson, Wheeler, Wasco, Hood River, Sherman, and Gilliam Counties).
The Employment Department surveyed 1,400 private employers in the Columbia Gorge, Central Oregon and South Central Oregon with two or more employees during 2017. If those companies were hiring, they asked about - job title, full/part time status, permanent/temporary status, starting wage, and educational or experience requirements.
