Canal Bowl 2019

Week 7 - Mazama vs Klamath Union.jpg

The annual tradition that dates back decades returns this week as Klamath Union hosts Mazama in the Canal Bowl.

Mazama is looking for a win to move forward in claiming a 6th consecutive conference championship. Klamath Union is playing to spoil the Vikings season and earn Canal Bowl bragging rights.

Mazama (5-1) is coming off a tough loss at the hands of Marist in Eugene last week. Marist had a game plan to defeat Mazama and it was simple, keep the ball out of the Viking’s hands. They did just that. Marist jumped out to a three score lead in the first quarter following a slew of onside kicks. Mazama fought hard but it was just too much to overcome in just 4 quarters. Final in Eugene, Mazama 21, Marist 55.

Klamath Union (1-5) has struggled to find a rhythm this season. The Pelicans lost a hard fought game in Grants Pass last week to Hidden Valley. The score was close threw most of the game with the Knights pulling out a last second victory. Final in Grants Pass, KU 26, North Valley 29.

Players to watch this week

Klamath Union: Xavier Arivizu, Darius Holmes, and Aaron Franklin.
If these three are on fire in the Pelicans balanced attack. KU can be a threat to Mazama’s 6th championship. Never underestimate the power of a home team with nothing to lose.

Mazama: Tristian Lee, Charlie Baker, and the entire offensive line.
Its no secret that the Vikings like to run out of the flex formation if they are going to be successful against Arvizu and the Pelican defense the O-Line must step up and provide an opportunity for the running game to work.
