July and August are historically the hottest part of the year in the Klamath Basin. It is easy to stay home and chill under your air conditioning but what if you have cabin fever or you simply do not have A/C at home? You could just stay home and suffer wishing you had A/C or you could get out and have an adventure.

Together with the Klamath Falls KOA we bring you, in no particular order, the top 5 locations to beat the summer heat.

  1. Go bowling
The Epicenter near Wal-Mart and Hanscams next to the fairgrounds are available for your family fun. Both would make a great way to spend some time inside an stay out of the heat. Besides, who does not like to brag about getting a turkey.

  2. Play at the pool
The Ella Redkey pool is a Klamath Falls summer tradition, almost like a right of passage for youth. The same could be said for the Malin Swimming pool too. Both are open daily for family swim, lap swim, open swim and more. Just do not forget the extra layer of sunscreen.

  3. Kimball State Park
If you want to get wet but wish to have an all-natural experience. There is nothing quite like the pristine clear waters of Kimball Park. This lake is north east of Fort Klamath off Sun Mountain Road and is the headwaters for the Wood River. You can even see where the cold water comes right out of the mountain. Bring your kayak, stand up paddle board, or canoe to this location for a personalized adventure. Don’t forget the BBQ and the bug spray too.

  4. Watch a movie
When was the last time you watched a movie in the theater? A great way to beat the heat is by checking out a matinee at the Pelican Cinemas with a great summer action flick, romance comedy or thriller. Some of the big summer blockbusters include Jurassic World, Fallen Kingdom, Tim Burton’s Batman, Mission Impossible, Fallout, and Hotel Transylvania 3.

  5. Lake of the Woods
This might seem like an obvious choice to beat the heat, but do not let it slip your mind. With weekly concerts, outdoor movies, buffet dinners, boat rentals, and swimming area. What better way to escape the Basin heat than dipping your toes in a beautiful natural Cascade Mountain lake.

BONUS: Take a drive for a treat, or lunch
Another great way to chill on a hot day is to take a drive (hopefully your car has A/C). locations to checkout include: soft serve Ice Cream at the Polar Bear in Merrill, homemade pizza at Bigoni’s in Malin, a juicy burger at JJ’s in Chiloquin or authentic tacos at Senior Tequila in Tulelake.
