Yreka, Ca- CAL FIRE will be assisting the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and Butte Valley Wildlife Area with a control burn in the next couple months’ weather permitting. The specific burn location will be near Pond 9A.
The project will be broken into manageable sections and will be burned when climate conditions allow to ensure control and minimize air quality and other impacts. If there are any indications that the burn cannot be conducted in a safe manner, such as high winds or local fire activity, the burn will be canceled.
The primary goal of this control burn is to reduce overall vegetation to decrease the chance of a catastrophic wildfire in the future as well as improve wildlife habitat. Smoke will be visible throughout portions of Butte Valley.
