Five Owls Receive CCC Athlete of the Week Honors

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Five Oregon Tech Athletes, Stephanie Koza (Golf), Mayson Tibbs(Golf), Kelly Scott (Softball), Susie Garza (Track and Field) and Hunter Drops (Track and Field), were named Red Lion Cascade Conference Athletes of the Week for their performances this past week the conference office announced today.
 
Koza, a sophomore from Mililani, Hawaii led the Lady Owls to the CCC Women's Tournament Championship this past weekend as she received medalist honors at the renowned Pronghorn Golf Resort in Bend, Oregon on the Nicholas course. Koza helped the Lady Owls secure the regular season championship as well as the CCC tournament championship. The tourney title earned the squad the league's automatic qualification to the NAIA Women's Golf Championships to be held May 22-25 at the NAIA Championships at PGA National in West Palm Beach, Florida.
 
Tibbs, just a freshman from Prineville, Ore. led Oregon Tech to the CCC Men's Tournament Championship as he won Medalist Honors with his three round total of 225. In doing so the OIT men captured the conference tournament title, earning the Owls the league's automatic bid to the 67th Annual NAIA Men's National Tournament May 15 thru May 18 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
 
Scott, a senior pitcher from Klamath Falls, Ore. had a season high 11 strikeouts in her no-hit shutout win over Northwest, lowering her season ERA to 1.90 and giving her 12 wins on the season.
 
Garza, a junior from Baldwin Park, Calif. won her section of the Women's 800 meter run, setting a new school record while also hitting an NAIA "A" qualifying time of 2:13.52.
 
Drops, a freshman from Coos Bay Ore. hit an "A" qualifier in the pole vault, and is now No. 1 in the Nation.
