On May 17 students from across the Klamath Falls City Schools will head into the community to give back by window washing, cleaning up parks, landscaping businesses and landmarks, beautifying trails, and running a Red Cross blood drive.

Klamath Union High School students and staff will kick off Give Back Day by gathering in Modoc Field at 8:15 a.m. Then students will head downtown and across the city to complete their projects. At noon, participants will meet at Sugarman’s Corner for a group photo commemorating the day.

The Klamath Falls City Schools started Give Back Day in 2014 as a way to show the community how much students care. In total, students and staff have contributed 17,000 hours of community service. And 12,000 students have learned the value of giving back to their community.

Blue Zones Project Klamath Falls, Shasta Elementary and the 173rd Fighter Wing at Kingsley Field are joining with their own projects for the volunteers to give back as well.

Blue Zones is organizing three projects:

  • Ella Redkey Pool
  • ODOT Adopt-a-Highway: Esplanade Street to Campus Drive
  • Lake Ewauna Waterfront Clearing Project

The Klamath County School District is joining with Shasta Elementary holding a Give Back Day at its school. Students will pick up litter and beautify the school grounds, and older students will go to Alva Park to clean up there.

Volunteers can register to join the Blue Zones projects, or the Shasta project, on the Blue Zones Give Back Day website: http://go.bluezonesproject.com/givebackdaykf.

Those volunteering at Shasta or any City School must complete background checks at the school before volunteering. Contact the school you intend to volunteer at for more information.
