Gov Brown Releases Strategy on Affordable Health Care

Governor Kate Brown Releases Strategy to Ensure Access to Affordable Health Care

(Portland, OR) — Governor Kate Brown today released her strategy to ensure that more Oregonians get the health care they need to thrive at a sustainable and affordable price.

"Everyone deserves to have quality, affordable health care, regardless of who they are or where they live," said Governor Brown. "Coverage alone does not create health. We must also improve the conditions in which Oregonians are born, live, learn, work, and age if we want our communities and our state to thrive."

Oregon is a national model for health care reform. For nearly a decade, Oregonians have been involved in intense efforts to create a person-centered, coordinated, community-based health care system that focuses on improving individuals’ health while also improving the quality of health care they receive, controlling costs, and eliminating health disparities.

Governor Brown's strategies to achieve lower costs and better health include ensuring Oregonians' continued access to health insurance coverage, delivery of effective, integrated care that addresses the social determinants of health, and increased investments in mental health and addiction prevention and treatment.
