Lady Owls Open Season with Two Wins

REDDING, Calif. -  The Oregon Tech Softball team opened the 2018 season with a pair of wins on Saturday. The Owls started the day by knocking off No. 18 Simpson 6-3 and followed that with a 2-0 win over NCAA D II Notre Dame De Namur. 
 
Game 1, Oregon Tech 6 Simpson 3
 
The Owls got great starting pitching from Kelly Scott who pitched the first four innings allowing no-runs and only two-hits in picking up the win.
 
Tech took the early lead with a pair of runs in the in the top of the 2nd inning on three-hits highlighted by a Kiahna Brown 2-RBI single.
 
OIT then chased Red Hawks starting pitcher Hailee Nichols with two more runs on three-hits to take a 4-0 lead in the fourth.
 
Tech added one run in each the fifth and sixth to lead 6-0 going into the bottom of the sixth.
 
The Simpson bats came alive scoring three-runs on three-hits and a walk to close the gap to 6-3 heading to the final inning where neither team could muster and runs as the Owls won 6-3.
 
Sahalie Doe and Ali Graham led the Owl offense with 3-hits each.
 
Game 2. Oregon Tech 2 Notre Dame De Namur 0
 
OIT got great pitching and finally broke open a scoreless game with two-runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on the way to the 2-0 shutout win.
 
Tech starting pitcher Loryn Williams was outstanding in her season debut, allowing no-runs and only two-hits with six strikeouts over four innings. Amy Robinson then pitched the final two shutout innings to pick up the win for the Owls.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Baylee Wyscaver led off the inning with a single to. Olivia Lethlean then had a pinch-hit single up the middle to put runners at first and second. A perfect sacrifice bunt by Cierra Barkis moved the runners up to second and third with one out. Doe then hit a double to center scoring Wyscaver with what would be the game winner. Lethlean was thrown-out at home on the play for the second out. Brown then hit a double to center scoring Doe and giving the Owls the 2-0 win.
 
Tara Moates and Wyscaver had two-hits each to lead OIT.
 
Oregon Tech will play these same two teams Sunday in Redding with game 1 against Notre Dame scheduled for 10:00 am and will wrap-up the weekend against No.18 Simpson at 2:00 pm
