Large Bird Sparks Fire
A brush fire was reported at 9:30 this morning behind Wal-Mart on Laverne Way. An engine, 2 wildland patrol vehicles along with 2 command vehicles for a total of 9 personnel arrived on scene shortly thereafter.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes with full containment within an hour. Damage included 2 power poles and approximately ¼ acre of grass and sage brush.
The 2 power poles sustained damage which caused a widespread power outage. They were determined to be safe for use and re-energized shortly thereafter.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a large bird that came in contact with the power lines.
