Statement on Former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s 10 Ethics Violations    

SALEM, OR — Today, Secretary of State Dennis Richardson made the following statement regarding unanimous findings by the Oregon Ethics Commission of 10 ethics violations by former Governor John Kitzhaber:  

“The extent and breadth of former Governor Kitzhaber’s 10 ethics violations is unfortunately no surprise to me, as I was one of the first to bring many of these violations to light. I’m glad, however, that action is finally being taken to bring accountability for this malfeasance. This investigation and subsequent unanimous vote by the Oregon Ethics Commission earlier today clearly shows that the Governor and Cylvia Hayes accepted money from those desiring to purchase influence.

"As I’ve said before, it is clear that Oregon and the nation still have a long way to go to restore trust in government. However, I'm grateful that Oregonians have placed me in a position to advocate for accountability and transparency in our state government.”
