ODF Partnering with utilities to reduce wildfire risk

Salem, Ore - The Oregon Department of Forestry shared its web-based Oregon Wildfire Risk Explorer tool to the Public Utilities Commission this week in an effort to reduce the number of wildfires started by power lines. ODF was joined at the PUC workshop by Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) and Pacific Power to introduce measures utility companies are taking to prevent ignitions or provide quick response when fires occur.

SHERIFF: KCSO Search and Rescue Volunteers Deploy to Paradise, Calif.

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office supported a call for aid from Butte County, California, by sending five of its Search and Rescue volunteers to Paradise to help with the search for missing persons from the Camp Fire incident. The call for searchers came as an Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC) request, which is the nation’s state-to-state mutual aid system.

Using its emergency mobilization plan, through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, The Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM) has activated its Agency Operations Center and is in the process of mobilizing 15 strike teams with equipment and personnel to assist with the Camp Fire in California.
