Viewing of Venus, new moon offered Dec. 28

A viewing of the planets Venus and Saturn and a thin crescent moon will be offered Saturday, Dec. 28, by the Klamath County Museum. The free event will run from 5 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Foothills Christian Fellowship, at the north end of Patterson Street in Klamath Falls. Large portable telescopes will be set up for viewing of the planets.

Klamath Winter Star Party

A winter star party will be offered Saturday, Feb. 10, by the Klamath County Museum. The astronomy event will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Stateline Road south of Merrill.

“The Orion nebula will be the star of the show for this weekend’s party,” said Greg Christensen, an amateur astronomer assisting with the event. “This is the best time of year to view the nebula, which is so big it can be picked out with just a pair of binoculars.”

Winter Stargazing Event Set for Sunday Night

A winter star party will be offered Sunday, Dec. 17, by the Klamath County Museum.

The astronomy event will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Steen Sports Park on Foothills Boulevard. In the event of cloudy skies, the event will be rescheduled for a later date.

“The nice thing about winter star parties is that we have darkness so early in the evening,” said Todd Kepple, museum manager for Klamath County. “We’ll be able to view some deep-sky objects on a moonless night, and then head home long before bedtime.”
