Crater Lake National Park Rescinds Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

CRATER LAKE, OREGON – The fire danger level within Crater Lake National Park has dropped from high to moderate due to recent moisture and predicted cooler temperatures. Klamath-Lake District Oregon Department of Forestry is also declaring an end to fire season in this area. Effective October 12, 2018 at 12:01 am, Crater Lake National Park will lift the fire restrictions implemented on July 13, 2018.

Missing Klamath County Man Survives Three Nights in Freezing Temps, Heavy Rain Lost Near Crater Lake NP

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office responded on Thursday, October 4 to the report of a missing 56-year-old man who went mushroom picking in an area near the base of the eastern slope of Mt. Scott. The man, identified as Marty Holloway, was reported by family members after he failed to check in with them. The family had located Mr. Holloway’s vehicle and discovered that he left his phone and jacket in it, and worried that he was not prepared to stay out in the elements.

Crater Lake National Park, OR: Northwest Incident Management Team 9 (Incident Commander Brian Goff) took command of the Timber Crater 6 Fire at 6 a.m. today. The fire is actively burning in mixed conifer in the remote northeast corner of Crater Lake National Park. This is one of several fires ignited by lightning in and around the Park on Sunday, July 15. Other fires are being managed by other incident management teams and local resources.

Crater Lake, OR - The North Entrance Road and West Rim Drive in Crater Lake National Park will open for travel Friday afternoon, May 25, 2018 – just in time for the holiday weekend. Superintendent Craig Ackerman announced that visitors will now be able to drive to and from the park via this popular route and access spectacular views of the lake from West Rim Drive. This is a very early opening for Crater Lake’s North Entrance. Warm temperatures and a low snow pack have resulted in a greatly accelerated spring opening this year.

The National Park Service today announced the selection of Crater Lake Hospitality, LLC, a subsidiary of Aramark, to operate visitor services at Crater Lake National Park and Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve. The concessioner will operate lodging, a campground, boat tours, food service, and retail at Crater Lake and operate a lodge, food service, and retail at Oregon Caves.

Crater Lake Fee Increase Proposal 2018

Crater Lake National Park is proposing an increase to entrance fees into the park. The single vehicle entrance fee would change from $15 to $25 for a seven-day pass. The park's annual pass would increase from $30 to $50. The current rate of $10 per individual and $10 per motorcycle would increase to $12 for an individual and $20 for a motorcycle. The park is proposing this increase begin May 1, 2018.
