Candle determined to be cause of Klamath Falls home fire

On Thursday, April 11, 2019, at approx. 12:44 PM, Klamath County Fire District No. 1 responded to the report of a structure fire in a home on Douglas Ave.

The residence was occupied by a family of five who was home at the time of the fire. The fire was discovered by a family member when they opened a door to a bedroom and found the room filled with smoke and heat. Everyone was able to evacuate the home safely, however several pets did not survive the fire.

At approximately 1:23 AM, during the early hours of Friday April 12, 49-year-old Mike Fowler of Klamath Falls crashed his vehicle on Lakeshore Drive. Klamath County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched and upon arrival found that Fowler’s vehicle had rolled over and sustained extensive damage. His passenger, 58-year-old Dale Faust of Klamath Falls, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Suspected Lake County child abusers arrested in Indiana

In January 2019, Oregon State Police Detectives began an investigation into reported abuse of two young boys living in the town of New Pine Creek, Oregon, located in southern Lake County near the California border.

The boys were assessed at Klamath-Lake CARES (Child Abuse Response & Evaluation Services) where they disclosed extensive physical abuse and being forced to ingest marijuana.

On March 26, 2019 Corey Fanning entered pleas to two counts of Attempted Unlawful Sexual Penetration in the First Degree, one count of Attempted Sodomy in the First Degree and one count of Attempted Rape in the First Degree.  These charges stem from his sexual abuse of a juvenile female which began sometime earlier than January 1, 2011, when she was only 11-yrs old.  The last incident of abuse ended sometime in 2014, when she was 14 years old.

In the early morning hours of March 12, Klamath Falls Police Officers responded to a call of a domestic violence assault in the 800 block of Mt. Whitney Street. A 43-year-old female victim and co-habitant of Michael Donnel Wilson, 32, made a call to Klamath County 9-1-1. She was found to be severely beaten and displayed facial injuries and was strangled during the assault.
