KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The $3500 grant will help fund construction of a multi-purpose shelter that will serve as an outdoor classroom and gathering space for the community.
The shelter will facilitate a variety of aquatic programs and help extend the outdoor season at Ella Redkey Pool by offering a heating element inside the open-air shelter. The space will offer a cool, shaded place to escape on hot summer days and a warm place to gather on cooler fall and spring nights.

CRATER LAKE, Ore. – Crater Lake National Park, in partnership with Discover Klamath, will host the seventh annual Ride the Rim days on September 14 and 21, 2019. On these consecutive Saturdays, the event will take place from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. East Rim Drive from North Junction to Park Headquarters will be closed to motorized vehicles from 10:00 PM Friday (September 13th and 20th) night before the event to 6:00 PM Saturday (September 14th and 21st) to allow for nonmotorized recreation including biking, hiking, and running. The event is free, but normal park entrance fees apply.

At least 95 lighting caused wildfire fires are burning in the Southern Oregon and Northern California region. The largest fire is the Lone Fire in the Modoc National Forest at 5,000 acres. Depending on the amount of moisture associated with the thunderstorms and the vegetation types on the ground, it can take several days for the smoke to become visible from a lightning-caused wildfire. Firefighters may be responding to new starts and holdovers throughout the weekend and early into next week.

On Saturday, August 31, 2019 the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) received a call from a female stating her climbing partner, later identified as Mr. Carlos Flores, 24, from Baha California, Mexico, fell while climbing on Mount Shasta and was unconscious at or near the 11,000 feet level of the mountain. He reportedly fell on Casaval Ridge in the area of Red Banks.

CRATER LAKE, Ore. – In July 2018, Evan Metz of Grants Pass, Oregon drove over three miles in the Pumice Desert causing significant resource damage. The soil and vegetation were disturbed throughout the area, and in the location where he drove around in circles while a friend took pictures, the disturbance exceeded 12 inches in depth and caused widespread vegetation mortality.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – An auto tour of homesteads in the Hildebrand area will be offered by the Klamath County Museum at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.
The free tour will begin at the site of the Farm Country Festival, which occurs on the same weekend. To reach the festival site, take Highway 140 East past Dairy to mile post 22 at Bliss Road, and follow signs from there.

Created as NCHC service/stewardship projects to encourage experiential learning and community building in the nation’s national parks, Partners in the Parks provides many students who are sometimes unable to go on a study abroad learning experience another opportunity, which is more affordable, for a meaningful learning and travel experience.
