Sycan River Fire burns northeast of Beatty [UPDATED]

BLY, Ore. – According to South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership and the Klamath County Emergency Manager, the Sycan River Fire is burning 1-mile north of Sycan Forest Estates, 20 miles north of Beatty, Ore. As of 5:30 PM, the fire is estimated to be approximately 250 acres in size with no containment. The fire is primarily wind-driven and burning in mixed conifer and bush. The cause is under investigation.

The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office has issued a Level 2 Evacuation Order for the Sycan Forest Estates.

A local Type 3 Incident Management Team will take over the management of the Sycan River Fire at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning.

The Sycan River Fire is burning approximately 10 miles northeast of the area burned by the Ponina Fire last month.

As a reminder, Level 2 evacuations indicate there is a significant risk to your area, and residents should either voluntarily relocate to a shelter or with family/friends outside of the area, or be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.

The American Red Cross and Klamath County CERT have established an evacuation center at Gearhart Elementary School, 61100 Metler St. Bly, OR 97622.

The Sycan River Fire is burning on private and National Forest System lands, approximately 30 miles north of Beatty on the Chiloquin Ranger District area of the Fremont-Winema National Forest.

NOTE: Earlier reports placed the fire five miles north of Beatty, that may be an unconfirmed second fire in the area that is getting mixed up with the #SycanRiverFire.
