KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Basin Transit Service (BTS) will begin Sunday on-demand service on Sunday, July 10th, 2022. Sunday Service is a door-to-door round trip service operated from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM for Seniors, individuals with disabilities, and the general public based on space available.

“We are pleased to launch a pilot program offering in-district public transportation service enabling commuting options on Sundays,” said Erik Nobel, BTS’s Board of Directors Chairman.

The all-new door-to-door service is perfect for those looking for help getting to the grocery store or church services.

“With the addition of Sunday service, the District will provide opportunities for seniors and individuals with disabilities to make essential trips to grocery shopping, see family and friends, attend Sunday services, and enjoy activities that were previously inaccessible due to lack of transportation,” said Carolyn Acevedo, BTS Mobility Manager.

People wishing to use the Sunday service should call Friday between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM to schedule their pick-up times with the BTS dispatcher at 541-883-2877. Cost is $1.50 each way and free to Veterans with the Klamath County Veterans Appreciation Card.

Basin Transit Service’s commitment to enhancing the livability of our community has been showcased on several occasions in the last 2 years. They provided over 100,000 free rides during the pandemic and had zero cases traced to the local public transportation system.

The Transportation District also leveraged its facilities to train eight Oregon State Police K9s. They have launched a ‘Veterans on the Go’ program that currently provides 1,000+ rides per month to local Veterans at no cost to the former US Service members. BTS donated replaced equipment to youth automotive and athletic programs, began an internship in coordination with the Special Districts Association of Oregon and Klamath Community College, and assisted the local Fire District with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations during a structural fire.

Starting in August, BTS will unveil a program that will connect outlying communities to each other and Klamath Falls.

“A good day at BTS is not only a day when we completed our mission of providing safe, efficient, and reliable transportation, but a day where we can also acknowledge that we maximized all the resources that we have at our disposal to benefit the people that live in our community, regardless of their public transportation use frequency”, said Acevedo.
