KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The Klamath County Chamber of Commerce has announced that it will be hosting a Republican Governor Candidate Forum on Wednesday, April 13 at Oregon Tech.

Six of the Republican candidates who will be on the May 17 ballot have confirmed their attendance including Bob Tiernan, Brandon Merrit, Christine Drazen, Jessica Gomez, Marc Theilman, and Nick Hess.

The event is being organized by the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC).

Doors open for the event at 5:00 PM with the opportunity for citizens to meet the candidates. The forum will begin at 6:00 PM and will conclude by 8:00 PM.

This forum is free and open to the public.

Joe Spendolini, Chairman of the Chamber’s GAC will be the moderator of the forum with Chamber Executive Director Heather Harter acting as the timekeeper to keep things moving.

“This forum will give these candidates an opportunity to make their case to our citizens, and for our citizens to hear from each candidate about matters they are most interested in, which will assist them in making an informed decision when they complete their ballots,” said Spendolini.

Spendolini added, “The last forum we did was in 2020 for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional seat currently held by Congressman Cliff Bentz. We are excited to be able to bring these back for our members and the community after the COVID lockdowns. It’s important that voters have an opportunity to get to know each candidate.”

This forum will feature only the Republican candidates for Governor. The Chamber’s GAC is attempting to schedule forums for the Democratic candidates as well as the candidates for Klamath County Commissioner.

Oregon is a closed primary state, meaning only registered republican voters will decide who the nominee will be from among the field of nineteen Republican candidates that have officially filed to run. That nominee will face off against the nominee from the democrat primary, as well as other candidates this November in the general election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
