Editorial: Business as Usual

Editorial by, Brian Gailey, Publisher Klamath Falls News

I love Klamath Falls. I highly appreciate the small-town charm versus the hustle and bustle of big-city life. I prefer small mom-and-pop boutiques over large box chains and Main Street rather than Wall Street.

However, there is one thing I do not like about small-town life and that is the ease with which rumors run rampant in the community. Recently, Klamath Falls News and its family of brands have fallen victim to such rumors.

Just yesterday, while visiting some of my favorite places, I was asked three times by three different people if Klamath Falls News was closing or for sale. These questions came up thanks to rumors spreading throughout our community.

Both of these rumors you may have heard regarding Klamath Falls News are simply not true.

It is no secret that it is a tough time for larger news industry brands. They face some major issues and changes in their own business model. Yet Klamath Falls News is open for business. In fact, we are expanding operations.

Recently we added Basin Beat (basinbeat.com) to the KFN Family of Brands which also include Cascade Firewatch, KFNTV, and Klamath Sports Network.

Basin Beat is an all-new home for local arts, entertainment, and events news for the Klamath Basin. It’s also home to a comprehensive calendar of activities. No longer do you have to search multiple calendars to see what is happening in the Basin.

We have recently hired two people that you already know and love. Anonda Rae is an excellent local photographer and arts & entertainment writer. She will focus on all things Basin Beat. Kelly Taipin is our new sales professional who has years of graphic design and sales experience, ready to work for our clients.

My family and I are going through some personal changes as well. Health and lifestyle changes that will benefit our family in the short and long term. These changes will not affect the operations of Klamath Falls News.

Sadly, we did have to make the heartbreaking decision to temporarily suspend operations of Klamath Sports Network. This unfortunate setback is a result of a lack of sponsors for the 2022-23 sports season. With an expanded sponsorship partnership and the hiring of a sports writer we plan to bring back coverage by Klamath Sports Network in the future.

I want to specifically address the rumor that Klamath Falls News is for sale. I would have to say this rumor is partially true - as it would be for ANY business including your favorite one.

Let me be clear, Klamath Falls News is NOT publicly listed for sale nor do I have immediate plans to sell the company.

With that said, for the right price, ANYTHING is for sale. If you are interested in ownership, get in touch.

I appreciate the concerns from our friends and followers. But let’s please squelch the rumors. Although other news organizations are struggling at this time. Unlike others, Klamath Falls News is small enough and nimble enough to adjust to trends and changes in the industry.

The future is looking bright for Klamath Falls News and our family of brands.

Respectfully,
Brian Gailey, publisher/owner of the KFN Family of Brands
