A late season atmospheric river will take aim at southern Oregon and Northern California this weekend.

The heaviest rainfall rates are expected Sunday morning through early Monday afternoon, with precipitation totals well above what would typically be seen this time of year.

Expect areas of standing water, rapid rises in rivers and streams, and very swift streamflows. Flooding is possible in more vulnerable areas. Rivers and streams east of the Cascades, particularly the Sprague, Williamson, and Pit Rivers, may also see the threat of flooding due to rain and rapid melting of snowpack.

A flood potential outlook is issued when there is the potential for significant rises or flooding along rivers and streams. The exact scenario for flooding remains uncertain. This product will be updated as necessary. Watches and warnings may be issued by the National Weather Service if this situation worsens.
