Icy Conditions Cause Christmas Day Crash into Klamath Lake

On Christmas Day, Katherine Jo Maxwell, 39 of Klamath Falls was traveling westbound on Oregon Highway 140 west of Klamath Falls. Near mile marker 58, Maxwell lost control on the icy roadway causing her Ford Five Hundred to slide into Upper Klamath Lake where it became partially submerged.  

According to Michael Hawkins of the Oregon State Police, Maxwell was driving 50 mph when she lost control.

Maxwell and a 10-year-old passenger did not suffer any injuries in the crash. Both occupants were assisted in extraction by other passing motorists.

The vehicle was recovered from the lake and towed from the scene.
