KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Klamath Falls was not without fireworks-related incidents on this July 4th holiday weekend. Klamath County Fire District #1 (KCFD1) reports two fireworks-related incidents.

On July 4, at approximately 9:25 PM, in the 4400 block of Homedale Rd, a grass field was set ablaze by fireworks. The fire burned under an acre.

“Luckily, it did not burn more, said Chad Tramp, Deputy Fire Marshal KCFD1. “The efforts of the citizens in the area and the crews from KCFD1 kept this fire to a smaller size.”

On July 5, at approximately 10:15 PM, dispatch received a call for a house on fire in the 2100 block of Herbert Street. Multiple crews from KCFD1 responded and quickly extinguished the fire. No one was injured. The occupant of the home had been displaced from her residence.

It was determined that Herbert St. fire was caused by illegal fireworks used in the neighborhood. Shrubbery outside the residence was dry and with a spark of fireworks falling from the sky caused the fire. It quickly burned into the residence.

“Proper use of legal fireworks and a good area cleared from dry grasses or shrubbery would have stopped these fires from taking off and causing the damage they did,” said Tramp.

“We are currently having warmer temperatures and dry conditions, which means it does not take much to start a fire that could be devastating,” said Tramp. “Be safe and responsible while having fun with your summertime activities.”
