KFCS outdoor mask mandate lifted

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - “Effective immediately, the Klamath Falls City Schools will no longer require the wearing of masks during outdoor school activities including recess,” said KFCS Superintendent, Keith Brown, on Monday via an emailed newsletter to parents.

The outdoor face covering rule was revised by the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Health Authority to allow districts to decide on the requirement of masks during outside activities.

Indoor use of masks remains required by KFCS for all schools and district buildings.

Below is a copy of Superintendent Brown’s letter.

Dear KFCS community:

Effective immediately, the Klamath Falls City Schools will no longer require the wearing of masks during outdoor school activities, including recess.

Under the outdoor face covering rule, for K-12 schools, which was revised last week by the Oregon Department of Education and Oregon Health Authority, individual school districts now have the authority to decide whether masks are required or optional during outside activities, and to make any rules associated with that decision. The district welcomed this news and will continue to advocate for expanded local control.

Outdoor mask wearing at the KFCS will now be optional; however, students, staff, and visitors are still required to wear masks inside schools and district buildings. We ask that everyone continuing placing respect at the top of their interactions with others, keeping health and safety in mind.

Sincerely,
Keith A. Brown, Superintendent
Klamath Falls City Schools
