Klamath Falls Downtown Association announced today that it will not endorse a position in the upcoming election with regard to Measure 18-112, which would allow the production and sale of recreational marijuana in the City of Klamath Falls and assess a 3% tax on retail sales.

“The constituents we surveyed were split right down the middle, which seems to be consistent with the the community at large,” said Executive Director Darin Rutledge. “Our board determined that the best course of action is to remain neutral on this issue as we continue to advocate for appropriate, responsible downtown development.”

The board of directors also announced that it will host an informational forum at its next network meetup on October 10. The forum will include short presentations from proponents and opponents of the measure along with the opportunity for question and answer. KFDA President Nic Phair characterized the event as an interactive opportunity to discuss the issue rather than an educational session to sway opinions. “Our intent is to avoid the extremes and provide perspectives that are more relatable to our audience. We recognize that many people have already made up their minds on this issue, but we are hopeful that having a better understanding of the multiple perspectives will prepare our community for how to respond after the issue is decided one way or the other.”

More details about the informational session will be available soon on KFDA’s website and Facebook page.
