Klamath Falls man arrested for motel room armed robbery

The following is a press release from the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - At approximately 2:00 PM on December 9, 2022, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Motel 6 on South 6th Street in Klamath Falls on a report of an individual entering a hotel room and threatened guests with a firearm. 

Deputies arriving on the scene learned that an individual, later identified as Albert Elias Benavidez (33) of Klamath Falls, forced his way into a room threatening the occupants with a firearm, then proceeded to take their belongings.

Benavidez was staying in another room of the motel.

KCSO deputies soon surrounded Benavidez's room. After a brief standoff, Benavidez surrendered to deputies without further incident.

Further investigation revealed the firearm recovered was previously reported stolen as part of a case that the Klamath Falls Police Department is working on. 

Benavidez was lodged at the Klamath County Jail on the following initial charges: 

  • Robbery I 

  • Felon in Possession of a Firearm 

  • Unlawful use of a Weapon 

  • Pointing a Firearm at Another 

  • Theft I 

  • Burglary I
