Lady Owls Season Ends in Extra Innings at Softball World Series

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – Tori Robinson of Georgia Gwinnett (44-15) laced a two-out, bases loaded seeing eye triple that just landed inside the right field foul line in the top of the eighth inning breaking up a 1-1 tie and sending the Grizzlies to a 5-1 win. The victory extends Georgia Gwinnett's season for at least one more game, while ending the Oregon Tech season at 44-17 Saturday night in the NAIA Softball World Series at Killian Softball Stadium.
"I am really proud of this group of ladies," said head coach Greg Stewart. "This is one of the best teams I have ever had the pleasure to coach here at Oregon Tech. They worked so hard year around to make each other better and consequently have one of the top 3 finishes in the history of this program. I will miss these seven seniors want to thank them for all their efforts over their career."
Georgia Gwinnett and Oregon Tech played a tight game for the second straight postseason. Last season, the Grizzlies defeated the Owls twice out of three contests to win the Lawrenceville Bracket of the Opening Round to make their first World Series appearance.
Sarah Abramson of OIT and Taylor Hansis of GGC were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel through the first five innings.
Georgia Gwinnett broke the ice with one-run in the top of the sixth on one hit, taking advantage of an OIT two base overthrow.
The Owls quickly responded, scoring the tying run in the bottom of the frame. Olivia Lethlean singled, was bunted over to second base by Kiahna Brown then scored on an RBI single by McKenna Armantrout. The Owls however missed an opportunity to score more leaving the bases loaded to end the inning.
After a scoreless seventh, Holly Janco got things rolling for the Grizzlies with a leadoff single, followed by a bunt base hit by Aubree Cox to put runners on first and second. After a sac bunt moved the runners to second and third, a walk to Crystal Busbee loaded the bases for Robinson who then laced the huge triple to right.
Saturday was the final game for seven Oregon Tech Seniors, Jacey Conklin, Shayna Ige, Loryn Williams, Dre Sotelo, Ali Graham, Kiahna Brown and Cierra Barkis.
