The communities of Merrill, Malin and southern Klamath County have a dream of a place everyone can gather to be together; where they can play sports, host events, meet as clubs and organizations and sit down to have a meal. This place will be the Lost River Community Center.

Over the last two years the Lost River Booster Club has headed the project and in the last six months the plans moved into action with local fundraising, networking and outreach.

“The Lost River Booster Club has a long history of supporting Lost River High School and its students,” said Aimee McAuliffe, LRCC Director. “The Lost River Community Center will provide our diverse population with opportunities for health and wellness, education, and personal growth for all ages. This is an exciting project that our communities will be able to enjoy for generations.”

In April the Boosters held an informational dinner at Lost River Jr./Sr. High School. Local donors gave $136,000 to start the fundraising campaign. Donations came from the Lost River Booster Club, Steve Wray, WC Ranch, Klamath Falls Wal-Mart and an anonymous donation. The Klamath County School District also committed $125,000 in in-kind service.

LRCC estimates the facility will cost $1.3million total. It will include a basketball court, tennis and pickleball courts, a wrestling room, a yoga studio, a fitness center, a climbing wall, locker rooms, classrooms, meeting rooms, and a full-service kitchen.

The Boosters want to introduce this project to the greater community of the Klamath Basin, and is doing that with a dinner and auction on Saturday, June 23 at the Merrill Civic Center.
