Naturescaping Workshop Offered

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A half-day workshop on naturescaping, or the use of native plants and other materials in landscaping – will be offered April 28 at the Klamath County Museum.

The workshop is cosponsored by the Museum, the Klamath Basin Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon and the Klamath Soil and Water Conservation District.

“We’ll cover everything from site planning and preparation to finding sources of native plants and solutions for watering concerns,” said Todd Kepple, manager of the Klamath County Museum.

The objective of the workshop is to help homeowners and business owners explore native species that might meet their landscaping needs, while reducing reliance on irrigation and fertilizer.

“Native plants can often survive on relatively poor sites, and in the long run can be less expensive to maintain than exotic plants,” Kepple said. “We also like to point out that our native plants will help our native pollinators thrive.”

A $10 donation payable at the door is requested to cover the cost of materials.

Space is limited to 30 participants, and preregistration is required by calling the museum at (541) 882-1000, or emailing museum@klamathcounty.org.

A sale of native plants, including mostly wildflowers and shrubs, is scheduled for May 19 at the museum.
