KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Klamath Falls youth and families will get even better care thanks to a recent grant awarded to Cascade Health Alliance (CHA) from the Oregon Health Authority (OHA). The “System of Care” award is an initiative of the OHA System of Care Advisory Council (SOCAC) to specifically support the “local systems of care governance and for carrying out the recommendations in the Council’s plan.” This means youth and families with complex health needs (both mental and physical) will have greater access to high-quality care, and a greater voice in how that care is coordinated and delivered.

The Klamath County System of Care (SOC) is a youth and family-led system that helps identify and address barriers to care for youth and families and increases health equity, especially for the most vulnerable populations. This is accomplished by aligning efforts among local “youth serving systems” (youth and families, mental, dental, and physical healthcare providers, various health and human services agencies, and local community leaders) to create a strong care network for our youth and their families. Barriers include tackling housing, difficulties for at-risk youth, suicide risk, vaping problems, lack of technology access, lack of healthcare access for migrant workers, and more. Through this grant, our local SOC and CHA can increase awareness and offer more tailored health solutions to address many of Klamath Falls’ most extensive health care challenges.

“We are ecstatic about this award,” says Tayo Akins, CEO of CHA. “The funds will enable us to offer an extra lifeline to people struggling to get back on their feet or keep their lives on track health-wise. We are always looking for ways to enhance our ability to care, find gaps, and serve our members most in need,” Akins added.

There can never be too many resources offered to people who genuinely need them. Especially in Oregon, where health disparities have widened in recent years, and people are struggling to afford housing and food, let alone medical expenses. CHA will make a meaningful and measurable impact in the community because of this award.
