Oregon Tech names John Harman of Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center as vice president for Finance and Administration

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) conducted a nationwide search and is pleased to welcome John Harman as the new vice president for Finance and Administration (VPFA). Mr. Harman will start at Oregon Tech on March 1, 2021.

Oregon Tech president Dr. Nagi Naganathan said, “In this critical role, Mr. Harman will oversee the university’s financial and information technology resources and capital initiatives, and his experience will be integral in helping to strengthen and align central administrative and financial functions with the university's core mission of teaching, research, and service. John’s expertise and experience will be invaluable as we implement our new strategic plan.”

Most recently, Mr. Harman served as vice chancellor for Finance and Administration at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, where he led Finance and Accounting, Budget and Fiscal Planning, Procurement, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Property and Facilities. Before working at LSU Health Sciences Center, Mr. Harman was associate vice chancellor for Finance at the University of North Texas System and previously senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center. He also has experience at West Virginia University Health Sciences Center and WVU Medical Corporation Charleston, where he was executive vice president and chief operations officer.

I look forward to working with the leadership in supporting the president’s vision to become a world-class polytechnic university, while helping Oregon Tech build new relationships and sources of support, better leverage existing ones, and improve operational efficiencies to advance the strategic plan,” said Mr. Harman.

Mr. Harman holds active CPA licenses in Tennessee, Texas, and Louisiana and has achieved the Chartered Global Management Accountant designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy and a Master of Business Administration degree from East Tennessee State University and holds certification as a medical practice executive from the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Mr. Harman has presented at national conferences and chaired the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s Formula Advisory Committee for Health Related Institutions for FY2015-16. Mr. Harman has numerous professional memberships and has served on institution and foundation boards.
