Highlights from the week's Recreation Report

Beat the heat with high lakes fishing

As temperatures in the valleys get warmer, think about heading to the hills for trout fishing. Legal-size trout are still being stocked in lakes at high elevations – and cooler temperatures. In addition, ODFW stocks hundreds of hike-in lakes for backcountry anglers. Learn more about high lakes fishing.

Warmwater species offer great summer fishing

Smallmouth bass in Lost Creek Reservoir, Lake of the Woods and the mainstem Umpqua, catfish in Brownlee Reservoir, walleye in the upper Columbia, crappie in Hells Canyon Reservoir – take your pick! Plus, there’s great fishing on dozens of ponds and lakes. There are great warmwater fisheries in every corner of the state. You’ll find fishing updates in the zone reports.

Sign up for hunter education

The fall hunting season will be here before you know it. Hunter education is required for all hunters 18 and under, and is required for adult hunters in many popular, nearby states. Sign up now for a hunter education course (online, workbook or traditional) or field day.
