Klamath County Big Game

Elk: Rocky Mt. Elk 2nd season is open Nov. 2 through Nov. 10 with a bag limit of one bull elk. Tag sale deadline is Nov. 1. Elk can be found throughout the wildlife area. Look for elk near agricultural fields and other food sources.

Gearhart Mountain, Strawberry Mountain, and Coleman Rim are popular in the Interstate Unit. Klamath Unit hunters can look around Yanix Butte, Chiloquin Ridge and Swan Lake Ridge. USFS lands around the Klamath Marsh will hold elk for Sprague unit hunters.

Elk populations in the District are generally low when compared to other areas of the state, but stable at those levels. Elk season is expected to fair to good depending on weather conditions.

Deer: Season is closed.

Bear: Open until Nov. 30 with a bag limit of one black bear, it’s unlawful to take cubs less than one year old or sows with cubs less than one year old. Look for bears in canyons, near water and around food sources such as acorn crops, wild berries and nearby orchards. With the weather changes, bears are moving a lot more in search of food.
