Update on Re-establishing Air Service at the Crater Lake – Klamath Regional Airport

Crater Lake - Klamath Regional Airport Director John Barsalou attended the Mead & Hunt Air Service Development Conference last week in Scottsdale, AZ. The conference was attended by 29 airports from 18 states across the nation as well as a representative from the Oregon Department of Aviation. Six airlines attended, offering one-on-one meetings and presentations with recent airline updates.

John Barsalou and Matthew Maass, State Airports Manager, Oregon Department of Aviation attended two one-on-one airline meetings: SkyWest Airlines and United Airlines.

The meeting with SkyWest was a follow-up to the headquarters meeting attended in September 2017. In the meeting, SkyWest indicated that they do not intend to add any new markets that are not already planned in 2018. Discussions for Klamath Falls service will continue with SkyWest later this year for potential new service in 2019. The United meeting was an introductory meeting with the potential for a future follow-up at their headquarters in Chicago, IL.

“While we are disappointed by SkyWest’s decision to not begin service to Klamath Falls this year, we are pleased that SkyWest will continue to look at our market for future service” says John Barsalou, Airport Director. “These are extremely challenging times for small communities seeking air service and we will continue to explore all air service opportunities that are available to us.”
