New Pacific Salmon Treaty Agreement to Ensure Sustainable Management of Region’s Iconic Fish

SALEM, Ore.—The parties to the Pacific Salmon Treaty have agreed on new coast-wide salmon fishing agreements under the Treaty. The Pacific Salmon Commission is comprised of representatives from Canada, the states of Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, and Northwest and Columbia River Treaty Tribes. Commissioners from the United States and Canada will now forward the agreements to their respective governments for approval.

Portland, Ore. – Effective June 1, 2018, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) prohibits the use of fireworks, target shooting with exploding targets, and the firing of a tracer or incendiary device on all BLM-managed public lands throughout Oregon and Washington. The ban will be in effect from June 1, to October 20, 2018.

AAA projects more than 107.4 million Americans (33 percent of the population) will travel for the Christmas and New Year holidays. This is the most on record and a 3.1 percent increase compared to last year. In Oregon, roughly 1.35 million will travel. This marks the ninth consecutive year of growth in travel for the year-end holidays. The year-end holiday travel period is defined as Saturday, December 23 through Monday, January 1, 2018.

FBI Increased Reward in Hunt for Sex Trafficking Suspect

The FBI's Portland Division is increasing the reward being offered to up to $15,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Kamau Kambui Leland Curnal, age 29. In October 2016, a federal grand jury in Oregon charged Curnal with one count of sex trafficking of a child and one count of transportation of a minor for the purposes of prostitution. The indictment alleges that Curnal and a second man, Terrence T. Barnes (aka Aaron Barnes), drove a minor victim from Portland to Seattle as part of a trafficking operation. The FBI arrested Barnes in November 2016 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
