Two Losses for Life & Liberty

The following is a press release from the office of Representative E. Werner Reschke (R-District 55).

SALEM, Ore. - On May 1, the Oregon House of Representatives passed House Bill 2002 - a bill expanding abortion, removing parental consent laws; and today House Bill 2005 - an anti-Second Amendment gun law.

State Representative E. Werner Reschke issued the follow statement:

“These were two bad days for Life & Liberty in the Oregon House of Representatives.”

“House Bill 2002 seeks to change normative views towards abortion and transgender procedures. This legislation moves abortion away from being ‘rare, safe and legal’ to ‘abundant, free and encouraged.’ Gender altering procedures move from being expensive and unusual to affordable and commonplace. What is worse is House Bill 2002 guts parental authority. With its passage, any age child in Oregon can receive an abortion without their parent’s permission; 15 years old’s can receive permanent, gender-altering puberty blockers, cross-hormone treatments, and surgeries without parental consent. House Bill 2002 is a terrible bill and continues to propel Oregon in the wrong direction.”

“In addition, House Bill 2005 has serious constitutional issues. Despite those real concerns, Democrats forged ahead to pass the bill along party lines. If House Bill 2005 becomes law, it would restrict the creation of ‘ghost guns,’ raise the age of purchasing many firearms from 18 to 21 and would create more restrictions as to where one can carry their firearm.”

House Republicans have committed $25,000 to the inevitable lawsuit on HB 2005.

House Bill 2002 & House Bill 2005 now move to the Senate for consideration.
