Wildfire Update: Silver Creek Fire

Approximately 125 people remain engaged on the Silver Creek Fire in the southeast corner of Silver Falls State Park. The 27 acre fire is burning in the Howard Creek drainage, a remote steep, timbered areas over a mile from the park boundary. 

The fire was first reported on July 12th and is currently under investigation. 

Containment of the Silver Creek Fire is estimated at 35% with three-quarters of the fires perimeter lined.  The areas is challenging for firefighters due to steep slopes, thick undergrowth and numerous large snags that pose safety hazards. 

Aerial support includes a Type 1 helicopter. Heavy Air Tankers and Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs) are being used if needed.

Sections of Silver Falls State Park remain closed due to the fire, including:

  • 214 Trailhead
  • Several back-country trails,
  • Howard Creek horse camp and Howard Creek day-use area,
  • youth camp (Camp Silver Creek), and
  • the Ranches are all closed.

Howard Creek and the Ranches have been closed to serve as incident command posts.

Other areas of the park are currently operating normally, with no interruptions to scheduled events.

No injuries or facility damage have been reported.
