Afternoon house fire claims the life of multiple pets

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - At approximately 2:48 PM, Thursday, fire crews from Klamath County Fire District 1 and the Kingsley Field Fire Department were dispatched to a residential structure fire inside the 1000 block of Homedale Road in Klamath Falls.

Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence. While occupants were attempting to get their pets out.

One occupant suffered smoke inhalation and was treated by EMS crews. All other occupants were safe.

Firefighters pulled multiple pets safely from the structure. One dog was rushed to a local vet for burns and smoke inhalation. Three dogs and multiple birds perished in the fire. 

The fire caused several thousand dollars of damage to the home and its contents and remains uninhabitable. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
