Aquatic and Riparian Plants Subject of Program

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – A program on plants that grow in or near water will be the topic of a program Monday, April 2, at the monthly meeting of the Klamath Basin Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Oregon.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. in the back meeting room of the Klamath County Museum, 1451 Main St. The meeting is open to anyone interested.

Michael Hughes, associate professor in the natural sciences department at Oregon Institute of Technology, will give the program titled “Role and Response of Native Aquatic and Riparian Vegetation at Ecological Restoration Sites in the Klamath Basin.”

“We’ll introduce attendees to some common types of aquatic and riparian vegetation in the Klamath Basin, and discuss the ways in which such vegetation has been used in the planning, implementation and monitoring of restoration projects,” Hughes said. “There will be an emphasis on functional aspects of the vegetation, as well as its landscape context and habitat values.”

Other activities planned by the Native Plant Society chapter include a naturescaping workshop on April 28, and a native plant sale on May 19.
