Photography Contest

“Put a Bird IN It” was the theme of the 2018 Winter Wings Festival Photo Contest managed by Steve Spencer of Leo’s Camera Shop. The Festival received 93 entries of digital photographs taken during Feb. 15-18. Local photographers Larry Turner. Ben Vallejos, and Tim Evinger. Judged the contest. The winners selected are:

  • First Place: David Hargus, Manteca, CA
  • Second Place: Mary Williams Hyde, Klamath Falls, OR
  • Third Place: Bruce Davis, Diamond Bar, CA

Youth Art Contest

The 2018 Winter Wings Festival once again offered a Youth Art Contest for Klamath City and County School Districts plus area private schools and home schooled youth. Students were  challenged to draw a woodpecker found in the Klamath Basin. The Festival received 103 entries representing all grade levels. Here are the youth that were selected for top honors at each level:

  • Kindergarten - Allie Chiladakis (Tulelake)
  • Grade 1-2 - Jack Johnston (Hosanna)
  • Grade 3-4 - Abby Prewitt (Triad)
  • Grade 5-6 - Cesar Hernandez (Tulelake)
  • Grade 7-8 - Daniella Flores (Tulelake)
  • Grade 9-10 - Jac-lynn Pelto (Mazama)
  • Grade 11-12 - Lily Charlton (Best of Show, Henley)

The Festival wishes to thank Dave Haupt for coordinating the art contest and Kyra Eberle of Klamath Falls who underwrote the student art prizes in memory of Margaret Eberle. Thanks also go to to contest judges Chris Haupt, Jeannie Smith, Rick Fahkre, and Selena Fahkre.
