Five county officials pen letter to Reclamation; citing health, safety, and well fare of citizens relating to irrigation

The following is a press release from the Klamath Water Users Association.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - County Commissioners and Supervisors from Klamath, Modoc, and Siskiyou Counties are weighing in with the Bureau of Reclamation regarding the need for timely diversion of water to the Klamath Project this year in the interest of public health and safety.

The elected officials emphasize the desperate conditions of dry domestic wells caused by the lack of surface water for irrigation this year and the degraded condition of canal systems that were dried out and infested with weeds, animal burrows, and other problems.

The Commissioners and Supervisors pointed to Klamath Irrigation District’s plan for a slow, deliberate filling of A Canal beginning mid-February as the means to ensure the safety of the system.
