Hit and run crash kills motorcyclist

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - On Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at approximately 6:33 PM, officers from the Klamath Falls Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident between a passenger vehicle and motorcycle at the intersection of Washburn Way and Onyx Ave.

According to reports by KFPD, when the vehicles collided, the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Washburn Way near Onyx Avenue, and the passenger vehicle was traveling southbound on Washburn Way before turning eastbound onto Onyx Avenue. 

Following the crash, the passenger vehicle left the scene.

Upon arrival, KFPD officers found the motorcycle rider (male, age 34) laying in the roadway, at which time officers, witnesses, and medical personnel from Klamath County Fire District #1 attempted life-saving measures.

The male was soon declared deceased from injuries sustained during the incident.

KFPD Officers and Deputies from the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search for the involved vehicle. They soon located a maroon, 2007 Dodge Caliber, and later identified the driver as Tashia Medina (32) of Klamath Falls.  After an interview and further investigation, Ms. Medina was arrested and lodged at the Klamath County Jail on charges of Failing to Perform the Duties of a Driver. Which is a felony in the State of Oregon.

Oregon State Police Troopers are assisting with accident reconstruction. Further investigations into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

The name of the motorcyclist has not been released at this time.

The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of Washburn Way and Onyx Ave.
