The Klamath County Detention Center recently received high marks during a mandatory compliance inspection.

“We got an outstanding score, a 96.5% out of 100. We all worked really hard,” said Jail Commander Lieutenant Brian Bryson. Bryson, leads a team of 52 jail deputies and staff that operate the 152-bed facility and which processes over 4,000 inmates and detainees per year.

A team of nine inspectors from across the state spent several weeks looking at items from afar, and then spent a full day on-site April 26. Klamath County Detention Center staff had 311 standards they were assessed on, including processing inmates, inmate medical care and grievances, facility cleanliness and maintenance, staff training, department policies, and more.

The inspection team found seven minor non-compliance issues. Lieutenant Bryson’s team has a plan in place to correct those minor issues within the next 30 days.

Jails across Oregon are inspected every two years through the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association to ensure Oregon jail standards are met, as well as the safety of both employees and inmates. For unknown reasons the Klamath County Detention Center was last inspected 14 years ago, which makes the achievement even more impressive.
