Klamath County Commissioners supporting struggling businesses

The following is a press release from the Klamath County Board of Commissioners.

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Klamath County will receive more than six hundred thousand dollars from the State of Oregon to distribute to businesses impacted by the Governor’s most recent decision to move the county from high to extreme risk, impacting in person dining and some fitness facilities.

This is the latest round of funding to help alleviate impacts to businesses falling under the Governor’s Executive Order.

This funding adds to the more than $2.7 million dollars in assistance the County has distributed since the COVID-19 pandemic began. 

Through the CARES Act, the County was able to distribute about one million dollars in assistance to various impacted entities. For example, Klamath County directed more than $70,000 to struggling child care centers and almost $250,000 to educational institutions to support students. Klamath County also directed almost $90,000 to refund license fees to restaurants and bars.

In May, Business Oregon gave Klamath County funding for a small business grant program, administered under the County’s guidance, by the South Central Oregon Economic Development District (SCOEDD). Between June and December 2020, SCOEDD processed $1,743,000.00 in grants on behalf of the county to 265 restaurants, gyms and personal service businesses.

Finally, under The American Rescue Plan recently approved by Congress, the County is slated to receive a total of approximately $13,000,000 in additional relief funding over a two-year period.  

The Board of Commissioners is committed to using those dollars to help spur economic development and recovery in the Klamath Basin.  

The American Rescue Plan Act also established the Restaurant Revitalization Fund, a $61 billion dollar fund to provide direct funding to help restaurants and other eligible businesses keep their doors open.
