Klamath Falls man arrested for Attempted Bank Robbery

 

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - On November 14, 2023, at approximately 9:52 a.m., Klamath Falls Police Department patrol officers responded to Rogue Credit Union located at 2420 Dahlia Street in Klamath Falls regarding an alarm.

While officers were responding, Klamath County 911 received an additional report from a bank employee in Medford - who had been monitoring surveillance cameras after the alarm was activated. This surveillance employee reported a male subject was inside the bank and that the subject stated he had guns and a bomb.

KFPD Officers soon arrived on the scene. With the assistance of the Oregon State Police, the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Land Management Law Enforcement. Together, they were able to secure the perimeter of the bank while the suspect was still inside.

The suspect attempted to flee the bank via the rear exit with one of the bank employees with him. The suspect was then confronted by law enforcement. The suspect returned the stolen money to the employee and was taken into custody without further incident.

Once the scene was checked and determined to be safe, KFPD detectives arrived on the scene to assist in the investigation.

The suspect was identified as Shawn D. Boggs, 50, a resident of Klamath Falls.

KFPD reports that Boggs entered the bank and presented a note demanding $6000.00. He then purported he had a firearm and a bomb. With his hand in his sweater, Boggs reportedly made furtive movements as though he had something in his pocket.

No firearm or explosive device was found on Boggs or his vehicle, which was located nearby.

Boggs was lodged at the Klamath County Jail on Robbery I and Theft I charges.

In a letter to Klamath Falls News, Captain Rob Reynolds stated, “Thanks to our local law enforcement partners for their immediate response to assist our department in apprehending Mr. Boggs, as well as the employees of Rogue Federal Credit Union for their quick reaction to activate their alarm system and ability to access their security cameras to provide us with real-time intelligence as we were responding to the scene.”
