Matthews Arrested for Vandalism

On Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at approximately 1:53 PM officers from the Klamath Falls Police Department responded to a call of a reported assault where a man with an ax in his possession was threatening employees of Chase Bank located at 2885 South 6th Street in Klamath Falls. It was also reported that the man had used the ax to damage the outside ATM.

The man left in a blue Honda sedan before officers arrived on scene.

A KFPD officer located the blue Honda traveling north on Crater Lake Parkway near Campus Drive. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit ensued. Members of the Oregon State Police and the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit, and officers were able to set up spike strips on both lanes of travel while blocking north and southbound traffic on Highway 97 North near Collier State Park.

The vehicle finally stopped and the driver was taken into custody without any further incident.

The driver was identified as Shane Michael Matthews and he was lodged at the Klamath County Jail on the listed charges.

  • Criminal Mischief I - Class C Felony

  • Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer - Class C Felony

  • Unlawful Use of a Weapon - Class C Felony

  • Four counts Menacing - Class A Misdemeanor
