The following is a press release from the Modoc National Forest.

ALTURAS, Calif. - The Modoc National Forest is pleased to announce Glenna Eckel has been appointed to the position of District Ranger for the East Zone of the Forest, responsible for the Warner Mountain and Devils Garden Ranger Districts.

Eckel earned a Bachelor of Multi-Resource Management degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona, after which she worked for the Prescott National Forest in her hometown of Prescott, Arizona.

As the saying has it, “once a cowgirl, always a cowgirl!”

During a GIS detail for the Forest Service in central Oregon, Eckel became involved in the management of wild horses. As part of the Devils Garden Wild Horse Territory Plan, she was hired in 2012 by the Modoc National Forest to assist with the planning and development process.

Eckel has worn many hats throughout her career in the environmental sector. During her career, she has worked as a field data specialist, a resource manager, a wild horse and burro specialist, and a program manager.

Eckel will report to her new position in January 2023.
