Refuge Fire 873 acres, 80% contained

UPDATE: 4:22 PM - It is believed that the impact on the refuge now includes 41 burned acres.

TULELAKE, Calif. - On Saturday, March 27, a fire that was started in a tule marsh on private land east of Lower Klamath NWR escaped and burned approximately one acre within the refuge boundary. The landowners called CAL FIRE/Siskiyou Unit who responded and began suppression and containment efforts, naming the incident, ‘Refuge Fire’. 

As of Monday, March 29, CAL FIRE reports the fire is holding at 873 acres total (including the one acre of refuge land) and 80% contained; the incident remains under investigation. The Klamath Basin refuge complex engine and fire crew were on scene for resource protection and to assist CalFire with mop up.
