OSAA 4A 2019 Week 2 Football Rankings

It may only be the second week of the 2019 high school football season, but the Skyline is proving early that it is the conference to beat in the OSAA 4A. Three of the top five teams in the 4A are from the Skyline – North Valley #1, Henley #2, and Mazama #5. Phoenix and Klamath Union hold #14 and #16 respectively.

Henley vs North Marion
Henley played a rare Saturday game against North Marion at home in the Klamath Falls News Game of the Week (rewatch here). The game started hot for the Hornets recovering the initial kick-off after being bobbled by the Huskies. The Hornets took advantage of the turnover, scoring on that possession. They did not look back.

Tim Orr, Quarterback for the Hornets completed 13 of 27 passes for 157 yards. Orr completed 4 touchdowns and threw only one interception.

Recievers Braden Lawrie and Sam Dixon had two touchdowns each. Lawrie had 4 receptions for 88 yards. Dixon had 5 receptions for 67 yards.

Running back John Tacchini averaged 4.6 yards per carry and punched one into the endzone.

Hornets defeated the Huskies 35-16.

Mazama vs Cascade
The Friday night lights were shined bright in a close contest between the Vikings and Cougars.

Mazama looked strong early as they held Cascade to a quick three and out on their first posession. Mazama’s first possession resulted in a touchdown following a 54-yard run by quarterback Tristian Lee. The remainder of the first quarter would be a defensive battle between both teams.

Cascade would start the second quarter with the ball and drive 58 yards to score six points on a Ethan Coffey 1-yard run. The Cougars tried for two but was no good.

Mazama responded by driving from mid field on the shoulders of the running backs, Charlie Baker and Aiden Kindt. Kindt ultimately scored on a 9-yard run, followed by a 2-point conversion by Baker. Mazama takes the lead and holds it until halftime, 15-6.

The second half was defensive battle between both teams. With neither team adding any points to the board during the third quarter. It remained that way until late in the fourth quarter when the Cougars were able to add six points following a 2-yard pass from Jacob Hage to Ryan Diehl for a touchdown. The point after was no good.

The Vikings would then run out the clock, defeating Cascade 15-13.

Viking Leaders
Quarterback, Tristian Lee went 2 for 5 passing for the Vikings for just 5 yards. Lee also rushed nine times for 79 yards and had one touchdown.

Fullback, Charlie Baker averaged 5.9 yards on 19 carries for 112 total yards. Halfback Aidan Kindt carred the ball 6 times averaging 3.2 yards and had one touchdown on the night.

Defensively, Cacence Baltz had 13.5 tackles on the night. Followed by Lee, Ben Hoegee, and Alex Hayden with 6 each.
