173rd FW builds strong relationship with Civil Air Patrol

Two Airman from the 173rd Fighter Wing are working to foster a closer relationship between the wing and the Air Force Auxiliary, better known as the Civil Air Patrol.

“Part of the Wing Strategic Plan is to build enduring relationships with the community,” said 2nd Lt. Brandon McGraw, a 173rd FW maintenance officer. “What motivated me to build this relationship was the opportunity to mentor our youth and future, potential Airmen. Also, I felt that building relationships within the community-especially the CAP is important to Kingsley’s future.”

Civil Air Patrol holds NCO school and Airman Basic class for Cadets

The Oregon Wing of the Civil Air Patrol held their Non-Commission Officers School and Airman Basic Class for cadets (ages 12-18) in Klamath Falls last weekend.

The event was hosted by our own Klamath Falls Composite Squadron and held at the Kingsley National Air Guard Base. Participants came from various areas of Oregon including High Desert, Medford, Aurora, Washington County and Grants Pass to attend this rewarding event.

Local Civil Air Patrol Change Command

For the last three years, Captain Brian Smith has led the Klamath Falls Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) successfully. On February 7 CAP held a Change of Command Ceremony as Captain Smith was honored for his commitment to the Squadron. The ceremony was performed by Oregon Wing CAP Commander, Colonel Billy Ray, and Vice Wing Commander, Lt. Colonel Rogers Walker.

Israeli Hiker Lost on PCT Found by Search and Rescue

DIAMOND LAKE, Ore. - On Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at 8:52 AM, Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) was notified by Klamath County regarding a SPOT Personal Tracker device sending an SOS distress signal. Klamath County had been trying to locate the hiker since Monday evening within their county. New information obtained from the distress signal indicated the hiker was on the Pacific Crest Trail near Tipso Peak located within Douglas County. The parents of the distressed hiker also contacted law enforcement. It was determined that the lost person was 36 year-old Anat Taher Leb, a citizen of Israel.

WalMart Foundation Awards Grant to CAP

On November 2nd, 2017 the Klamath Falls Walmart store manager, Kelly Cooper, presented a $1,500 grant to Captain Brian Smith at the regular Thursday night meeting.  The Walmart Foundation granted this award through their Community Grant Program. The monies are greatly appreciated and will help support the Squadron’s mission of Aerospace Education, Cadet Program and Emergency Services.
