LAKEVIEW, Ore. - Since Tuesday night, Klamath and Lake counties have had approximately 270 lightning strikes as scattered thunderstorms moved through the region. Scattered thunderstorms produce multiple wildfires

LAKEVIEW, ORE. – Last night scattered thunderstorms across the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership (SCOFMP) area produced more than 1,500 lightning strikes in Klamath and Lake Counties.

So far firefighters have identified 10 fires from the lightning activity.  All fires are less than one tenth of an acre with firefighting resources on scene. Three of the five SCFOMP have confirmed fires.

Lightning Causes Eight New Fire Starts at Crater Lake National Park

CRATER LAKE, OREGON – Lightning throughout the region on July 15th resulted in eight new fires at Crater Lake National Park.  All are currently one half acre or less in size.  Smokejumpers arrived soon after the fires were detected and have put lines around the two largest fires.  The remaining fires are single trees and firefighters are working to extinguish those as well.  All the fires are being suppressed.

South Central Oregon Wildland Firefighters Ready for Lightning

South central Oregon wildland firefighters have prepositioned themselves for forecasted lightning strikes this weekend.

Weather forecasts indicate a slight chance of lightning strikes this afternoon and Saturday which will increase on Sunday. Additional lightning is possible middle to late next week. Fire danger levels remain high in the region as temperatures are forecast to be ten to fifteen degrees above normal.
